Back in the boom days, the construction of a new gas station, convenience store and a Subway restaurant might not have drawn much attention. Yet these days a project that will directly and indirectly create more than 100 jobs and one that’s using 100 percent local companies is welcome news.

Time Saver Food Stores, a longtime BP gas station operator and Subway franchisee with stores throughout South and Central Florida, is building the new complex at the intersection of Okeechobee Road and 25th Street in Fort Pierce. The store will bear the Town Star logo.

FEMA, the FCC and NOAA are planning a test of the National Emergency Alert System, but due to some uncertainty of how some of the older Alert Systems will respond, they’re reaching out nationwide to warn the public that the alerts that they’ll be seeing on November 9th, 2011 at 2pm EST is just a test and not an actual emergency. You may be familiar with this test, as it’s been used by local authorities in the past, but this is the first nationwide test.

Here’s what you can expect:

It will be conducted Wednesday, November 9 at 2:00 PM EST.

It will be transmitted via television and radio stations within the U.S., including Alaska, Hawaii, the territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.

Similar to local emergency alert system tests, an audio message will interrupt television and radio programming indicating: “This is a test.”

When the test is over, regular programming will resume.

For more information, please visit the FEMA Test Announcement page.
